Thanksgiving

There is an adage in Yoruba that goes like this “a grateful person will always have the chance of being rewarded every time” I couldn’t agree less with that adage. The act of Thanksgiving is a culture that is gradually fading away with frequent civilization. Thanksgiving has always been something that we do at the event of a joyous situation, but rarely do on sad days. We sometimes like to check the gravity of an event to determine how weighty the thanksgiving is going to be.

Most people must have noticed this and decided to churn out various explanations and imaginary events that would spur Thanksgiving out of our hearts. But why do we need such before we can live out a thankful life? A life that oozes thanksgiving at the sight of any event either good or bad.

I once saw a tweet on twitter[ sorry, the X app] and the tweet was explaining how the writer was thankful at the most mundane thing about life that we do everyday and might not see in a different light. The writer was thankful for the sight of dirty dishes because it meant they had plenty to eat, the sight of a pile of dirty laundry which signifies that they have a lot of clothes to put on, the children running around and slamming the doors because it showed that they were raising healthy kids.

I am also taking a deep introspection q emails and messages because it shows that I have a clear vision, thankful for that neck pain I feel everytime I use my laptop because it signifies that my body is healthy and responding properly, Thankful for the music I get to listen to daily because it means that I have a functioning ear, grateful for the body pain after a long day because it shows that my body is responding well and lastly grateful for lost relationships because I know beautiful ones are yet to be formed.

Thanksgiving doesn’t have to sound cute to the ear or seem pleasant to the face because I believe that it is what births hope in us. Gratitude helps us appreciate our individual journey in life both past, present and future.

Lastly, I am grateful for life and a New Dawn.

It’s my birthday 🎈 🎉
